Adults can be defined as animals or human beings who have completed their development. In the realm of human beings, adult is a reference to social and legal concepts. As opposed to someone not considered an adult or "minor" legally adult has attained majority, that makes them independent as well as responsible and competent. The word "major" may be used to define these individuals. The typical age of attaining the legal age of adulthood is 18 however, definitions can differ based on legal rights, country and the level of development in psychological terms.

Adulthood refers to the time in the human lifespan in which full physical and intellectual maturity has occurred. Most people think that adulthood begins at age 20 or more. Then, after middle age (starting at around 40), comes older age (around the age of 60). Young adulthood starts between ages of 18 to 30. The middle age stage begins from between the mid-30s and the 60s. Late adulthood starts at mid-60s. When we enter an early age (20 to mid-40s) our physical growth has been completed, however the size and weight of our bodies may increase slightly. The physical abilities of our bodies are at their peak when we are young adults. This is reflected in muscle strength, reflex time, sensors, and the heart's function.
